OTHER WORK EXPERIENCE

2016-present: The Hide Portugal - Proprietor/Project Manager

I initiated and led this project, bringing in partners to buy a farmhouse ruin in the Portuguese mountains and renovating it to create an artist's retreat. The property consists of 5 acres of land and 4 houses, none of which had running water, electricity, gas or drainage. I completed all of the restoration work myself, finishing to a high standard to create a luxury retreat. The Hide recently received a 4-page feature in The Sunday Times Travel Supplement:

2010-present: Portrait Painter

I worked mainly on album covers (Lazy Habits, Fjokra, Joe Driscoll), but among my private commissions are portraits for a number of celebrities, including Taron Egerton, Eleanor Tomlinson and Hugh Jackman. Payment for portraits is donated directly to homeless people, by the client.

2010-present: The Hub/Hubworks - Proprietor/Project Manager

The Hub is a warehouse which I converted into studios for artists and musicians to live and work. The result was something special, a space where creatives came together to live, work or socialise, creating a network of talent many people would kill for. Its been hugely rewarding to see people starting from nowhere, working together to achieve top 10 hit singles, cinema released movies and even break Hollywood. The success of The Hub led to the opening of a second property, Hubworks, which is twice the size but follows the same principles. The Hub was recently featured in Huck Magazine:

2009-2015: More Like Trees - Manager

I was responsible for all aspects of developing a young band from Tour Management, budgeting, promotion and even housing, leading up to signing a 3 album deal with BBE Records. This only stopped when the lead singer put the band on hold to pursue his (successful) acting career.

2015 – Boomtown Festival / Secret Garden Party / Shambala Festival - Artist Liaison/Stage Manager

Working for the Wandering Word stage , I looked after the needs of some the the UK's foremost Hip Hop acts and Spoken Word performers, as well as controlling stage times and making sure the program ran smoothly.

2010-2014: The Finsbury - Music Programmer/Artist Liaison/Stage Manager

I found The Finsbury Pub as a very quiet, slightly scary football pub in Manor House and convinced the manager to let me develop a regular music program, the success of which led to it becoming a thriving music venue which has seen many of the UK's best acts take to it's stage.

2011-2013: SMS Festival Croatia - Artists Liaison/Stage Manager

Looking after all elements of getting the bands on stage, from hotel and flight bookings, to riders, liaising with sound engineers and ensuring their well being whilst in Croatia.

2009-2011: The Bedroom Bar - Music Programmer/Artist Liaison/Stage Manager

Working under London music scene legend, Chris Greenwood, I helped to remodel the venue and design a music program for the upstairs bar at The Comedy Cafe.

2007-10: Mossbourne Community Academy, Hackney - Head of Textiles, Teacher of Design Technology, Head of Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Joining Mossbourne from its third year of opening, I was able to write the whole Textiles scheme of work, starting with stuffed toys, and leading up to fashion and tailoring at GCSE and A level.

2004-07: Aldenham School - Teacher of Graphic Products & Textiles, CCF Officer, Boarding Tutor

As well as teaching Graphic Products (problem solving and model making) to A level standard, I introduced Textiles to an all boys school and managed to build up huge interest in the subject. In my first year all students of Textiles GCSE achieved grades A or A*.

2002-03: Holland America Cruise Ships – On board Shop Assistant

1999-02: Space One Design – Design & Media Coordinator

Starting off as Studio Manager, I made myself indispensable, eventually taking charge of client liaison, media buying, budget planning and website development.

1997-99: Tom Gilbey's Waistcoat Gallery, Saville Row – Design, Tailoring and Sales Assistant

Working with a largely celebrity client base to create custom waistcoats and flamboyant evening wear, I was involved in the whole process from sales to design and hand finishing of garments.

1996-97: Nigel Hall Menswear – Design Room Assistant

Working directly under Nigel Hall, I was responsible for pattern cutting, sample making and technical drawings, as well as running the stall at The Clothes Show Live.

1996: Mansun – Stylist

I designed and produced a selection of outfits for rock-indie band “Mansun” to wear on the world tour of their No. 1 album “Attack of the Grey Lantern”.

Personal Achievements/Charity Work:

I ran a series of expeditions for underprivileged inner-city children which built confidence and opened their eyes to the world. These projects were all self funded and included canoeing on the River Wye, survival challenges in Cannock Chase and a 5-day trek across the Atlas mountains in Morocco, delivering art equipment to a remote school.

I spent 6 months working for children’s charity, The Educator’s Trust, in Goa. My duties included: running fundraising events; selling books and raising awareness on a stall at Anjuna Market; distributing fruit, blankets and medicine to families living in the slums; assisting with teaching at a school set up for slum children; checking children for injuries, illnesses or head lice; building / repairing the school and equipment for ports and arts projects. I also helped streamline the running of the office by running interviews for local staff and training them to use Excel spreadsheets, Powerpoint and Photoshop.

I raised £17k for charity by staging a fashion show in the chapel of Aldenham School. This was sponsored by Arcadia and required me to coordinate a team of 40 students, set builders from Elstree Studios, plus lighting and music specialists working over 3 months.

I run a yearly event, The Mighty Paint Party, in which street artists and illustrators are invited to paint the walls of a large warehouse, while DJs and bands perform. These parties have developed a reputation and are often attended by celebrities (inc: Paloma Faith, Nicholas Hoult, Taron Egerton, Antonia Thomas, Nao, Speech Debelle, etc) who buy the art being produced. We have also managed to convince artists such as Foreign Beggars, Lazy Habits, Killa Kela, Reeps One, The Beatbox Collective and Too Many Ts to perform for free.
